Charles William Dearybury, Sr. started in business
in 1948. Seeking opportunities to better provide for his
family, he bought and loaded coal at the Cowpens depot to
resell to customers in the Cowpens area. Thus began Dearybury
Oil & Gas, Inc. As time and technology progressed, people
chose to heat with fuel oil rather than coal. To provide
his customers with the products they preferred, Mr. Dearybury
went into the home heating oil business. He purchased a
used oil truck for $300.00 from Waite Hamrick, an oil dealer
from Gaffney and in 1958 he signed a supply agreement with
EXXON.
During the 1950’s and
1960’s Dearybury Oil & Gas prospered. Low prices,
quality products, and dependable service were the basis
for the growth and prosperity. In 1969 the company became
a member of Associated Petroleum Carriers (APC) and bought
its first tanker to haul its own product to its service
stations and bulk plant.
During the 1970’s Dearybury
Oil & Gas entered the wholesale gasoline, kerosene,
and fuel oil business. This was a time of uncertainty and
upheaval in the petroleum industry. The Arab oil embargo
and the fall of the Shah of Iran made oil scarce. Dearybury
Oil & Gas proved to be a reliable supplier of petroleum
products to homeowners, schools, railroads and industries.
By providing oil when others could not made our customers
happy.
In 1989 sensing that customers
wanted to heat with propane gas, Dearybury Oil & Gas
entered the propane gas business. This positioned the company
to serve customers with the energy source of their choice.
Today Dearybury Oil & Gas
is committed to its customers and is responsive to their
needs. The old values—low prices, quality products,
dependable service-- are the same values we offer you today.
